About
Trey Nunnally is a graduate of the American Youth Harp Ensemble (AYHE) and first asked his parents to play the harp when he was three years old. After meeting two former ensemble members playing outside a local Ukrops, Trey began taking private lessons with Lynnelle Ediger and Aponi Brunson and joined the American Youth Harp Ensemble in 2005. He started as a member of the Troubadour Ensemble and advanced through the five levels of ensembles to become a principal harpist in the Touring Ensemble, the AYHE’s top-tier ensemble, before his graduation in 2012.
During his time as a member of the AYHE, Trey performed locally in the Richmond area at venues like the Byrd Theater, Dominion Energy Center (formerly the Carpenter Theater) and the Altria Theater. He also performed in the PBS televised special “Christmas With the American Youth Harp Ensemble” and on Virginia This Morning on CBS 6. Trey has traveled with the AYHE on numerous East Coast Tours including performances at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the White House, the State Department and for the Kennedy Center Honors Medallion Ceremony. Internationally, Trey has performed in the United Kingdom as a part of the London Festival of Music at St. John’s Smith Square, Southwark Cathedral and St. Augustine’s Church and in Austria as part of the Advent Festival of Music at Melk Abbey, St. Peter’s Church, and in the Mendelssohn Hall at the University of Performing Arts, both in Vienna.
Trey has a robust background in teaching both private lessons and directing ensembles. He served as the leader of the Boys and Girls Club Outreach Harp Ensemble from 2007 to 2014. He is excited to collaborate with one of his former Boys and Girls Club students currently on GreenSpring’s Harp Therapy Program. Trey is right at home working with the American Youth Harp Ensemble again and is proud to return to GreenSpring to direct harp ensembles, teach private lessons and lead outreach programs!
