GreenSpring strives to provide world-class education including each facet of classical music performance. Pianists are integral to so much of our repertoire, ranging anywhere from solo sonatas and suites to chamber ensembles and accompaniment to the absolute pinnacle of the instrument: concerti. Our distinguished faculty will help students along every step of the way, bringing out their highest potential in every venue from the salon to the orchestral hall.

Two Tracks - Intermediate and Advanced
The Ultimate Summer Music Experience!
Pianists will spend one week at our venue in Richmond, Virginia during the most beautiful days of summer, enjoying the following training benefits:
Lessons: Four private lessons with renowned Richmond-based piano faculty
Coachings: Accompaniment and music preparation training from experienced professionals
Technique: Individual coachings aimed to keep the body free of practice-related injuries
Theory: Music theory classes to inspire an understanding of what makes standard repertoire special
History: Music history classes to further instill a fully-contextualized familiarity with the music

Alexander Kordzaia
Mr. Kordzaia is a professional orchestral conductor, pianist and vocal coach. He holds degrees from the T'blisi Conservatory of Music, Republic of Georgia and has completed graduate studies at the Juilliard School of Music, New York and Shenandoah Conservatory. Currently he is the Music Director of the University of Richmond Orchestra. Mr. Kordzaia has conducted orchestras throughout North America and Europe and is in frequent demand as a guest conductor. He was the music director of the Charlotte Civic Orchestra North Carolina and the Richmond Philharmonic Orchestra Virginia.

The Summer Piano Institute is located in historic Richmond, Virginia. Spend your summer exploring the historic downtown, creating beautiful music, and making new friends!
Daily Schedule
Monday-Friday:
Half Day: 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm EST
Full Day: 9:00 pm - 4:00 pm EST
Students may choose to stay and rehearse from 4:00-5:00 pm daily
Tuition & Application
Full Day - $1,050
Half Day - $525
Room & Board (optional) - $450
Application Fee - $25
Scholarships considered upon request.
An advance deposit of $200 will be collected upon registration in order to reserve your place.
Applications open November 15th, 2024
Early registration ends March 15th, 2025
Priority Applications close April 15th, 2025
Applications received after April 15th will be considered based on availability
Audition requirements:
For the intermediate track, pianists are asked to submit a playing sample of one piece best demonstrates their current level and ability.
Pianists applying for the advanced track should provide a YouTube, Google Drive, or other accessible link showcasing the following two requirements:
One fast, technical étude or movement from performance repertoire
One slow, lyrical étude or movement from performance repertoire
There is no expected time limit for an audition - only that the two pieces show a broad range of musical experience.
The Richmond Piano Institute is open to pianists ages 8-18 of any level. Advanced musicians looking for an intense summer program are encouraged to consider our two-week Richmond Conservatory Preparatory Institute.
